Samantha,
I’m so glad you were able to tweak this implementation plan and still make it a valuable exercise for someone in your role. This is great, and it gave me a few ideas for teaming up with our Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning to get more involved in our New Faculty Orientation program. When I first read your post, I immediately thought of a checklist for faculty embedded within the sample course at: https://webcourses.ucf.edu/courses/1246849/pages/content-delivery-and-logistics?module_item_id=10251654
After looking at your checklist, this may be a little too detailed, but it may give you some ideas.

Also, mentorship really is a key success factor (as noted in the Quality Transformation Model for Faculty Development), and recruiting quality mentors can be a challenge. In our model, the instructional designers serve more as a formal mentor in the design process, but we also encourage faculty to seek out more informal mentors within their academic departments. We’ll actually recommend a “web vet,” someone who has been teaching online successfully for at least a few semesters, if one exists in a specific department. We also invite those web vets to come in as guest speakers in our professional development classes. We can often make those informal connections and referrals, but a more formal mentorship program may require incentives. There’s a growing list of creative incentive ideas in this forum:

If you have something you’d like to share or have a great resource you feel we should add to the site, please let us know!
