Issue 15 | Special Edition: Community of Practice
Subscriber,

As always, thank you for subscribing to the TOPkit digest. As we kick off the new year, we wanted to give you a sneak peak overview of TOPkit's accompanying Community of Practice. We are very excited about the upcoming launch of the Teaching Online Preparation Toolkit (TOPkit) site on February 1st, 2017 and cannot wait to share it with you.

While the TOPkit site will be a comprehensive resource that provides the postsecondary community with the essential elements required to ensure a very high quality online faculty development program, the integrated community of practice will become a global online forum for ongoing collaboration and sharing of faculty development resources and effective practices. It will also be an ongoing forum for advancing the scholarship of teaching and learning in the online environment.

The online community will start with three major forums initially:
  • Ask ADDIE: Each month an advice-column-style online faculty development dilemma/suggestion will be posted by our resident expert ("ADDIE") in this forum as a regular feature. (Please send potential substantive scenarios to topkit@ucf.edu.) Feel free to "reply" to the monthly postings with comments or follow-up questions. Posting of brief questions not pertinent to other TOPkit forums is also invited here. "ADDIE" will reply periodically, but community replies are welcomed also.
  • Share an Effective Practice: Please post your success stories and materials related to effective practices for faculty development for online education in your organization. It could be specific activities, resources, incentives, or even course content that you are willing to share with the community. We may approach you for permission to share your effective practice directly in the TOPkit site as well!
  • Topical Discussions: Please peruse the forum for ongoing discussions related to specific topics such as faculty development models, copyright considerations, faculty incentives, or creating accessible online course content. If you don't see a topic of particular interest, we invite you to start a new thread!

Within the community you will also have the ability to set up a professional profile and establish an online presence. We hope this becomes a regular destination that you return to frequently after it goes live Feb. 1st!

Warmest Regards,
Dr. Wendy Howard
