Allison,
We certainly share some of the same concerns regarding participation in an online community and sustained engagement. One thing you listed that I think we could do a better job of on this site is “explaining the theory and research supporting learning communities.” Please let me know if you come across some resources that we might be able to share here too.

Our current group of moderators met just yesterday to discuss another item on your list, which is “discussing topics useful and relevant to the community.” We started with discussion topics tied to each of the detailed content pages within the toolkit to try to initiate dialogue, but we plan to monitor over the next 2-3 months to see how the discussions organically evolve. At that point, we’ll work with the advisory board to revise the structure if needed to keep it organized and relevent for our community members.

I too welcome suggestions and best practices and hope that others will reply with their ideas.
