    Abstract:
Faced with the continuous need to ensure both new and returning faculty are prepared to teach online and hybrid courses, USFSM E-Learning Services has developed and successfully utilized a two-phase faculty professional development program that addresses both technical and pedagogical skill development. Explore the design and implementation of our two-phase program through this interactive session. Identify how USFSM is experiencing success and take away ideas about how you can strengthen your home institution’s faculty development program. USFSM’s approach to high-quality online courses includes utilizing: 1. A two-week basic on boarding certification course for online teaching; and 2. A semester-long, in-depth course in online pedagogy and course design, with a project-based outcome. This pipeline of trained faculty creates a supportive community within our university for quality online course design and pedagogy that can mentor other faculty and serve on internal review teams. Additionally, this two-phased program supports a continuous pool of quality online course offerings that can then be prepared to seek external certification in online course design quality.
